Ultra-Lightweight Flooring In The Battersea Power Station Redevelopment Project.

Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London’s largest new developments. Fully decommissioned in 1983, it was given a Grade II building status and is now currently being redeveloped as part of a seven phased, £9 billion project to create a vibrant mixed use development of homes, shops, cafes, offices, leisure and cultural venues. As part of the redevelopment of the power station, a light-weight floor build up was required.

In this months Concrete Magazine, Padraic McGrath, our R & D Technical Manager discusses the ultra lightweight flooring solution that has successfully been installed in the Battersea Power Station Redevelopment Program. The system comprises a pourable lightweight aggregate and Cemfloor liquid screed topping.

Cemfloor, supplied by Capital Concrete from its Silvertown plant, was the screed of choice for B & K Systems, a supplier of specialist floor systems, as they have successfully used the product on numerous projects and are familiar with all the benefits Cemfloor has to offer. The project also included energystore TLA insulation, a thermal lightweight aggregate combining EPS beads, which are coated with special additive and cement to create a lightweight screed that has thermal and acoustic properties.

Installed by B & K Systems onsite team, an installation rate of up to 1000m2 per day was easily achieved and the system was delivered ahead of schedule with significant time saving on the project.
